02About / Practice
Technology as a
social material.
My practice explores how technology can become a social object: something that helps people notice themselves, one another, and the environments they inhabit.
I work across interactive installation, XR, sound, projection, physical computing, and participatory systems. Rather than treating emerging technology as the subject of the work, I use it to construct situations in which simple human actions — touching, moving, listening, remembering, approaching — become meaningful.
Across projects including Dear Nobody, Sun and Us, LifelinesAR, Sixth Sense, and Vibe Altar, I have explored vulnerability, environmental listening, empathy, care, and ritual.
My current research asks how interactive systems might move beyond the relationship between a person and a machine. I am increasingly interested in interfaces that become meaningful only through multiple people: simultaneous touch, coordinated movement, shared sound, exchanged memories, or other small acts of cooperation.

Yiting Liu
Yiting Liu is a New York–based interdisciplinary artist and creative technologist working across interactive installation, XR, sound, projection, and participatory systems. Her practice investigates how technology can create moments of empathy, vulnerability, ritual, and collective presence. Her work has been presented through Pen + Brush / Every Woman Biennial, Games for Change, the Museum of Wild and Newfangled Art Biennial, NYU ITP exhibitions, and Network Music Festival. She holds an MPS from NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program.

Interfaces for
collective presence.
A developing body of participatory work investigating physical interfaces that only become meaningful through multiple participants.
Simultaneous touch. Coordinated movement. Shared sound. Exchanged memories. Small acts of cooperation that make the relationship between people the central interaction.
This ongoing research extends the trajectory from individual immersive experiences such as Dear Nobody and LifelinesAR toward public and collective systems such as Vibe Altar.
