Sun and Us creates an audiovisual relationship between environmental sound and human participation. Field recordings, changing data, and bodily interaction become a composition that connects a participant’s immediate surroundings with places beyond the room. Listening becomes a way of participating in an environment rather than simply observing it.

The work began with memories of time spent in a park with Yiting’s grandmother: wind in the willows, birdsong, conversation, and laughter experienced as a symphony. Browser-based interaction brings that memory into a changing present, pairing spare visual forms with sound. The project asks how a mediated encounter might renew attention to nature, to other people, and to the ordinary sounds through which we remember a place.

Process & research.

The visual language developed from circles and lines. Field recordings and environmental data make the composition change over time, while webcam-based body recognition brings human movement into the same system.
