Vibe Altar is an interactive sculptural installation that reframes ritual as a contemporary practice of intention, agency, and remembrance. An illuminated crystal ball housed within a handcrafted wooden enclosure responds to a visitor’s presence, activating one of nine audiovisual invocations in randomized rotation.

Each environment combines sound, language, light, and moving image with references to feminist scholarship and mythic traditions. Technology operates as conduit rather than spectacle: sensing remains nearly invisible while the visitor’s decision to approach becomes the central action. Presented at the Every Woman Biennial 2026 at Pen + Brush Gallery in New York, the work makes room for reflection within a shared public space.

Process & research.

Crystal and wood give the interface a physical presence; light, sound, and moving image give it a changing one. The sensing hardware stays out of view. This restraint makes the visitor’s approach, rather than an explanation of the mechanism, the beginning of the encounter.
