Creative coding / projection mapping / 2020
All Connecting.
A video sculpture that gives invisible internet traffic a presence in the room.
Role: Creative technologist · with Wenjing Liu and Stefan Skripak · Skills: Processing · Carnivore · Syphon · MadMapper · Projection mapping
Situation
Make the invisible visible.
A web search feels immediate, but data moves between a computer and remote servers. Inspired by Hans Haacke’s The Wave, our team wanted to turn that hidden exchange into a spatial experience.
Task
The creative brief.
Capture live network activity and give it a visual structure that could move through a projection-mapped space.
Action
What I made.
I tested ways to read traffic in Max/MSP, then built Processing logic with Carnivore to capture sender and receiver addresses and organize them into sixteen visual paths. Wenjing developed the moving text; Stefan mapped the projection.
Result
What the work produced.
Together we produced a recorded video sculpture study showing live packet activity as moving text and mapped projection. The work was developed remotely during the COVID-19 shutdown.
Project film
See it happen.
01 / interaction concept
From browser to room.
The early sketch follows a visitor from a browser search through packet capture and projection. It made the system understandable before the technical pipeline was settled.

02 / architecture progress
Prototype, then route the signal.
The Max/MSP experiments helped establish that page content was not the packet flow we needed. We moved capture into Processing with Carnivore, organized address data into sixteen paths, then sent the visuals through Syphon to MadMapper.

From practice to projects
A wider visual toolkit.
All Connecting connects network programming, visual composition, and spatial delivery in one experience people can watch unfold.
